As we head towards the exciting journey our new school, I thought it wise to share some information with you regarding our Governing Body.
At Oakfield School we have a very active Governing Body made up from a wide selection of dedicated people from all walks of life who give our time freely and voluntarily to ensure that the School receives all the help we can offer in order to reach its goals. We make collective decisions about planning school improvement and development and are answerable to the parents and carers, the local community and the local authority. We delegate the day to day running of the school to the Head Teacher, Rachel Davies.
The Governing body of Oakfield is made up of representatives from the Local Authority, as well as Parents and Staff from the school.
The Role of the Oakfield Governing Body
- To provide a strategic view of where the school is going.
- To establish the School’s values and aims
- To hold the school to account for the educational standards it achieves and the quality of education it provides.
- To ensure that both staff and pupils are able to work and study in a safe and happy environment.
- To act as a critical friend to the school
Chair of Governors
The chair of governors makes sure that the governing body’s affairs are conducted lawfully. He also helps to run meetings and gives advice to the Head Teacher. Our current chair is Lee Morfitt.
Staff governors are elected by the school staff. We currently have 1 staff governor along with the Head Teacher.
Parent governors are elected by other parents. They are the parents or carers who have children of school age.
Authority governors are appointed by the Local Authority. The LA will appoint any person they feel is appropriate.
The Governors elect to be a member of various committees. Each committee is specialised and meets regularly as a group. Committees report back to the full governing body. Our current committees are: Personnel & Finance and Standards & Curriculum.
Oakfield holds Full Governing Body Meetings and Committee Meetings each term.
Contacting the Governors
You can contact the governing body via the school office.
